The court, presided over Justice Mariama Owusu, an Appeal Court judge, sitting as an additional High Court judge, heard that Anim landed a blow on Major Mahama. Baah and Asamoah, according to Sackey, also took turns to hit Mahama on his head with various objects. Shedding light on how the incident occurred, he stated that he was at his carpentry shop on May 29, 2017, when he heard that a robber has been apprehended by people in the town. He therefore picked a stick and ran to the direction of the noise ostensibly to attack the supposed robber. I decided to drop the stick because of the way they were beating him; I felt pity for him”, Sackey recounted. He said that after the lynching, word got out that the deceased was a military person so he absconded to a friend’s house at Bogosu for fear of reprisal attacks from the military. He said he later reported himself to the police after it emerged that he appeared in the ‘lynching’ videos. Sackey told the court that he was kept in custody and was taken to court as one of the suspects but was later discharged of the accusations.
